Re: Grand Opening of NEW Immigration Information Center in Watsonville

You are cordially invited to the Grand Opening of the new Community Information Center for Migrant Assistance ~ Centro Comiunitario de Información Migratoria (CIMA).
Working in collaboration with other local agencies that advocate for immigrants, CIMA will provide free assistance to the immigrant community concerning immigration law and documentation. The center will also provide legal referrals to private attorneys and agencies in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

CIMA will be open from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesdays at Trinity Lutheran Church; Fridays from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Sundays from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Lutheran Community Church, both in Watsonville.

The Grand Opening on Sunday, October 7th, will feature a reception with food and a chance to meet CIMA staff and steering committee. The Grand Opening will be open to the general public and will take place at Lutheran Community Church, 95 Alta Vista Avenue from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Association – Executive Director

Organizational Profile:
Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Association (JHCCA) is an
award winning nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of life for
children with cancer and supporting their families in the challenges
they face by providing compassionate care and practical support. Our
services cater to elemental needs; ensuring that families are
supported emotionally, socially, financially, and with resources that
cater to the entire family.
Jacob’s Heart serves Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey
Counties with an annual budget of $400,000 and staff of six. Our
headquarters are located in the Freedom, California with a satellite
office located in Salinas.

Position Overview:
JHCCA is seeking a full time Executive Director (ED). The Executive
Director will report to the JHCCA Board of Directors. The budget is
approximately $400K annually. We are looking for someone who can
promote ’s Heart Chi’s Cancer Association’s mission, garner a wide constituency of support,
and lead the growth of the organization. The ED will work closely
with the Board of Directors and its committees to fundraise, oversee
program implementation and maintain a solid infrastructure. The
position is broken down approximately as 60% fundraising and
community outreach, 15%, Administration 5% Program Management, 10%
Staff Management and 10% Board Development.

Responsibilities: (include but not limited to)
- Serve as the primary leader, external champion, and internal
manager. The ED holds accountability and authority for the
organization’s fiscal, programmatic and infrastructural health.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, diversified fundraising
program, including individual giving, special events, corporate
giving, private foundations, and public sector fund raising.
- Develop strategies and tactics to increase giving and attract new donors. The
ED is responsible for raising approximately $450K per year to meet
annual revenue goals, cover budgeted expenses, and generate
appropriate surplus.
- Write and submit funding proposals, reports, outreach
materials, and reports to the community.
- Ensure excellent donor management and stewardship for all
donors; file required reports with funding agencies.
- Serve as a public representative and primary external
spokesperson.
- Stay informed about issues in the lives of families facing
pediatric cancer.
- Maintain sound fiscal health; oversee internal controls of
resources and develop and monitor budget.
- Manage and review the Program Director, Business Office
Manager, Volunteer Coordinator and a variety of volunteers.
- Oversee all public relations & community marketing.
- Oversee with the direction of our Family Services Director all
aspects of program direction, delivery & evaluation including setting
and meeting programmatic goals annually.
- Recruit & support an active and influential Advisory Board and
Board of Directors.
- Report regularly to the Board of Directors regarding
organizational objectives, financial status and other relevant
issues.

Qualifications:
- Proven fund development track record
- Ability to develop a network of resources and individual
connections
- Skillful in resource management, finance, and budgeting
- Proven public & media relations skills
- Ability to establish effective and harmonious working
relationships with staff and community
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, compelling
public speaker
- Ability to set clear limits
- 4+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector with at least 2
years as an executive director
- Ability to identify key issues in problem solving and
implement effective and creative solutions
- Demonstrated ability to exercise appropriate authority
- Ability to uphold program and personnel policies
- Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit
organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low
overhead
- Excellent supervisory and management skills
- Ability to maintain and promote an atmosphere of dignity,
strict confidentiality, and respect in line with the philosophy and
policies of Jacob’s Heart
- Culturally competent & experience working with diverse
populations.
- Ability to move items weighing 1-30 lbs from floor level, desk
level, and shelf level of 6-7 feet.

Free medical screenings in Watsonville to veterans

Supervisor Campos is pleased to announce that beginning Friday, July 13, 2007 Dr. Ian Tong will be conducting medical screening’s in Watsonville to veterans. Currently veterans must travel to Santa Cruz for this service and through the collaboration between the city of Watsonville, the Santa Cruz County Human Resources Agency, the Watsonville Veterans Services and Supervisor Campos, this will now be offered in Watsonville.

Dr. Tong will be conducting medical screenings, assessments, and evaluations for recommendations to a VA specialists. No medical procedure will take place in the Watsonville office. The following is a list of dates Dr. Tong will be in Watsonville. It is important to note that his visits will be on a trial basis, should the program proof successful, a recommendation to make the visits will be made.
