Emerging Issues Action Group

The WCCC is well positioned to coordinate efforts to address urgent and emergent issues. In 2007, the WCCC was able to coordinate efforts to address the pending closure of Birds Eye. Hundreds of community members were to be laid off and through the WCCC members were able to plan and coordinate a response with the City of Watsonville and through the county’s One-Stop Career Center to ensure that service providers helping laid-off workers knew of all the available resources the WCCC members provide and to link the workers to WCCC member services.

Watsonville still faces serious emergent issues realted to foreclsoure and sky high unemployment rates. WCCC members, through the coordination of housing, advocacy and education services can not only address the community’s increased needs but can avert growing crisis.

As part of addressing the growing foreclosure crisis, the WCCC has collaborated with the Central Coast Foreclosure Collaborative (a working group consisting of experts in the foreclosure field) to help publish an informational foreclosure workshop DVD. The Foreclosure Workshops sponsored by the CCFC in order to educate the public on the whole aspect of the foreclosure process. The entire presentation has been uploaded onto the internet so that individuals facing foreclsoure can find proper information about the entire foreclosure process.
